Members of The Ultimate Brokeback Forum are proud to announce the publication of Beyond Brokeback: The Impact of a Film. Story selection, editing, proofreading, graphic design, layout, website design, and gathering of biographies and permissions were all carried out by sixty volunteers, most of whom were having their first experience with book publishing.

Dave Cullen is a journalist and author who has contributed to Slate, Salon, and the New York Times, among others. He is the author of the New York Times Bestseller Columbine. He's the founder and owner of The Ultimate Brokeback Forum which began on his blog in 2005.

K. enjoys a career in the hospitality industry which has included at various times a full-time focus in a wide range of specializations, including rooms division management, human resources, training and development, database management, web development, training design and delivery, systems management, and art direction for a hotel marketing production department.

After seeing the movie in December, Dean stumbled upon the Ultimate Brokeback Forum while looking for an outlet for the feelings it stirred in him. He was struck by how welcoming and supportive everyone was. He doesn't identify especially with either Ennis or Jack, but he recognizes their timeless love, as well as the pain of losing the greatest love of his life. Within weeks, Dean started meeting other brokeaholics in person, and has found every one to be special friends in the making. He participated in forum gatherings in Texas and Chicago, and volunteers on the forum maintaining links to related content.

She has recently decided to home-school her children after becoming disenchanted with the public schools' insistence that her children need to change in order to fit the system, and not the other way around. She hopes to model tolerance and compassion in hopes that her children will be tolerant and compassionate to others. She loves to read, knit, scrapbook and travel, is addicted to kickboxing and any form of fun exercise.

The Most Reverend Bruce J. Simpson, OSJB, is a longtime equal rights advocate for the GLBT community. Author of the book The Gay Face of God, he has been published in numerous magazines and has been seen and heard globally on various television and radio programs. Archbishop Simpson served as a research assistant and editor. He lives with Jack, his partner for over 32 years, in Pennsylvania with their four Scott terriers.

John Trudell is an army brat who grew up in several states and Germany. In 1975 he helped organize the Tri-City Gay Awareness Association. He is a struggling musician and plays piano for corporate events and parties, but has decided he will no longer play for weddings until it's legal for everyone to marry. He was also the organist for a local church, but gave that up following anti-gay harassment from the pulpit. John was recently elected to the board of directors for the State Theatre of Bay City.

Beth is originally from Wisconsin. Her hobbies include gardening, photography and NASCAR. Glacier Park Montana is her favorite place and cruising a favorite form of vacationing. She first heard about Brokeback Mountain in November 2005. Her first viewing was Jan 16th 2006. Her second viewing on Jan 18th changed her world forever. On Jan 28th she became a member of the Ultimate Brokeback Forum where she now spends most of her time in the Juicy Bits. These threads have helped in the healing process as the many fanfiction stories provided an alternate ending to the greatest love story ever told.

His answer, "Because it is my fervent hope that by honestly telling how Brokeback Mountain changed my life, it will resonate with readers, who will be brave enough to reach out as I am doing and free themselves from the burdens they carry."

Brad B and his partner of eighteen years, Steve, reside in rural Washington. Steve is a nurseryman and landscaper. Both have large, close-knit families, and traveling and holidays almost always revolve around family members. Community involvement is important to Brad and Steve. Both have been volunteer firefighters and also participate in various local functions in the nearby very small town. They also enjoy farming, landscaping and travel. Brad is a train 'junkie' and both enjoy reading when the rains come.

Jack Schilling is a Brooklyn boy who has lived in Manhattan, Texas, London, Turkey and Berlin. Jack believes that Brokeback Mountain and the emotional honesty he found on the forum were catalysts which helped him change his life. He feels that his most important friendships have been renewed and rebuilt on new and stronger foundations, as a direct result. Jack also recently proposed to the lovely lady with whom he'd fallen in love at 19. They were married in January, 2007. Currently Jack's favorite hobby is redlining it around Wyoming in his cowboy hat while singing loudly and badly. He contributed to the book both as a researcher and an author, and now lives in Colorado.

Steve and his lawfully-wedded husband Don are avid hikers, and enjoyed trekking to the peaks of all the BBM stand-ins during the summer of 2006.

It is an experience that he still cherishes today, as that group taught him the meaning of brotherhood, kindness and positive activism. He is also a strong and long-time supporter of those afflicted with alcoholism and drug addiction. This is his passion and where his heart lies.

Before she discovered Brokeback Mountain, her hobbies included things like watching movies, reading books, visiting art museums, going to the ballet and theater, gallery openings, wine tasting, trying new restaurants in the city, quilting and doing other crafts. But now she is pretty much consumed by all things Brokeback. She travels to forum events and only eats what can be consumed while sitting in front of a computer screen.

She is also the author of a number of Brokeback Mountain fan fiction stories and poems, and writes a weekly fan fiction review column for The Daily Sheet. Her devotion to the phenomenon that is Brokeback Mountain results in part from her lifelong deep and abiding relationship with the person she calls her 'soul-mate', a man who was her first cousin and himself gay. Her one regret is that her David did not live long enough to see this landmark film.

Doug Carr, who helped start the Gay Pride Parade in Denver, Colorado many years ago, was a close friend of the founder of the Coronation Group and voted for the rainbow flag in San Jose. He managed hardware stores for thirty years before retiring in 1993, after the passing of his partner, to the family ranch where he cared for his grandmother until her passing at age 103. Doug has a niece and a nephew and is about to become a great uncle. He now runs his internet-based business and cares for 100 cows. He also raises and cans fresh produce for winter consumption.

Nottingham UK, although they are both originally from Scotland. Gary writes, researches, and teaches film and television studies with a special interest in gay and lesbian topics. He is currently writing a book on gay spectatorship and 'Brokeback Fever' and co-editing a book on queer television called Pleasures of the Tube. His previous publication is a reader in Asian Cinema for Edinburgh University Press. Brokeback has transformed everything Gary thought he knew and understood about the pleasures of cinema.

Cheryl, a single mom of two young men, lives on a small island west of Seattle. She worked for 30+ years as a medical assistant. She chose to take early retirement after the death of her parents, and is currently pursuing her long time dream of getting her Masters Degree in Counseling. She has used her life changing Brokeback experience as the theme for papers and presentations during her graduate school program. These were well received by fellow students and professors alike, generating meaningful dialogues. She owns a small Plant Care business, and teaches basic computer skills as a volunteer at her local library. She has been on a lifelong spiritual path and enjoys reading, knitting, gardening, and baseball.

In 1998, he relocated to Washington, DC where he worked as an educator before transitioning to school administration. He lives with his partner and their dog Scooter, and he loves traveling.

He has been active in fostering the cause of gay rights in his home town and prompted his State Psychological Association to take a written supportive position on gay rights issues in the early 1990s.

Jack Magnan has worked at many occupations over the years, including short order cook, book store manager, salesman and most recently, as a substance abuse counselor at a nationally recognized treatment center. He has spent time in places as disparate as upstate New York, Hawaii, California and Florida. Recently semi-retired on social security, Jack has relocated once again to warmer climes and now braves hurricanes and freaky politics for the sake year-round warm breezes, bright sunshine and the exuberant foliage in the Punta Gorda area of Florida. Jack's proudest accomplishment is twenty-three years of continuous recovery from alcoholism. He maintains active participation in Alcoholics Anonymous.

He lives in a spooky old downtown house with a friend, four cats, and fruit-bearing potted citrus trees. Wayne has published several scientific articles on HIV prevention, behavioral science, and statistical methods. His translation of Russian poetry was published by the Italian National Commission of UNESCO. He loves cool weather, Greece, and planet formation. Wayne received injections for an HIV vaccine study, works in HIV prevention, and says: "Do your part to prevent the spread of HIV!"
